A steel ship at Odalskajen in Valdemarsvik attracts attention in the town.

- One morning it just stood there, says a passerby to SVT's reporter.

The boat is a Russian model and is not registered with the Swedish Maritime Administration.

The boat has anchored without permission at an operational wharf, which is used by, among others, the coast guard and must not be blocked.

- The boat is unregistered.

It should not be in traffic at all, says Kristina Hörnqvist, supervisor at the street and property office.

May not be moved

For several weeks, the municipality of Valdemarsvik has been trying to find the owner of the ship.

But since it is not registered, no owner is indicated either.

Even though the boat does not have permission to dock at Odalskajen, the municipality is not allowed to move it.

It can remain standing for several years.

- If we don't get hold of the owner, we have to wait until it starts to sink and is considered an environmental hazard, says Kristina Hörnqvist.

According to Kristina Hörnqvist, it sometimes happens that boats anchor in the harbor without permission.

According to her, it takes a lot of resources from the municipality.

- It will be costly for us as a small municipality.

SVT Nyheter has been in contact with a former owner of the boat who believes that the boat has anchored according to a so-called emergency port.

If a boat cannot continue its journey, it can dock at a port without paying the port fee.
