The Republican Party candidate to preside over the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, has lost the vote in which he was to be elected for the seventh time.

The session in the Lower House has resumed this Thursday (6:00 p.m. in Spain) for the third consecutive day to vote for the position of 'speaker', after McCarthy lost three votes on Tuesday and another three on Wednesday.

Republican hardliners are boycotting his candidacy.

In fact, they have re-nominated another candidate, Byron Donalds, as an alternative to McCarthy.

Donalds got five votes.

It is not clear if the Californian congressman will get the necessary support in the next vote.
