A member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was shot dead near his house south of the capital, Tehran, yesterday evening, Tuesday, according to what the official media reported today, speaking of the possibility that the incident was related to theft.

And the "IRNA" agency reported that Qasem Fathallahi was "martyred" after being targeted by unknown persons in a shooting incident.

It indicated that Fathallahi was hit with 4 bullets in front of his house on Mokhtari Street, south of the capital.

While IRNA explained that the police had opened an investigation into the incident, it reported that signs of theft from apartments were detected in the vicinity.

Since last September 16, Iran has been witnessing protest movements following the death of the young woman, Mahsa Amini, after she was arrested by the so-called morality police in Tehran on charges of not wearing decent clothes.

Hundreds were killed, including dozens of members of the security forces, during protests that included raising slogans against the authorities.

Thousands have also been arrested on the sidelines of the movements, which officials consider a large part of as "riots" behind which the "enemies" of this Islamic Republic stand.

On Saturday, a member of the "Basij" mobilization forces linked to the Revolutionary Guards was killed by gunfire in Samiram, Isfahan province, according to the official media.

The judiciary issued death sentences against 13 people in connection with the protests, and two of them were executed in December against two people convicted of assaults on members of the security forces.
