Despite the challenges with many sick employees and many hospitalized patients, the care that was planned to be carried out should have been able to be completed during the past weekends.

But now care is entering the Epiphany, which is described as the toughest time of the year.

- There is usually a high influx of patients this week, it can also be difficult with care places, but in Sörmland we have had good cooperation with our municipalities and generally had a good outflow of patients from our hospitals.

We hope that this means that the situation will be manageable even for the coming weekend.

Four viruses are rampant

There are currently four viruses that are spreading in society.

Healthcare in Sörmland has seen a reduction in covid cases, from 600 positive corona cases during Christmas week down to 400 cases during last week.

Today, just under 20 patients are hospitalized with covid-19.

- It is lower than in many other regions and we don't know exactly what it is due to, says Magnus Johansson.

70 cases of RS every week

As far as the RS virus is concerned, the situation in Sörmland is unchanged with approximately 70 new cases every week.

Half of them are adults and half are children, and the healthcare system in Sörmland has not seen a sharp increase in the RS virus in children, who are the group that is hit the hardest.

The flu is increasing sharply

On the other hand, there has been a sharp increase in the number of flu cases in the past week, and approximately 15 patients are currently being treated in hospital.

Last week 160 people tested positive but only a few are sampled and therefore the real numbers are significantly higher.

Vomiting disease is also found in the wards at Sörmland Hospital.

Extra shifts and interrupted leave - this is what the region has done to cope with staffing.
