We learned with great sadness of the sudden disappearance of Ghassan Basile, which occurred on the night of Tuesday January 4 to Wednesday January 5 in Lebanon.
Ghassan began his career in Lebanese French-speaking media, before arriving in France in the mid-1980s. He then began working in the local stations of Radio France, then headed the editorial staff of the regional group Contact FM based in Lille. .
He then took over the editorial direction of special programs broadcast on France Télévisions and France 24, and produced documentaries.
Ghassan had joined France 24 in 2011 as editor, before being appointed deputy editor in 2015 and replacing editor-in-chief on the French, English and Arabic sections of the channel.
In October 2016, he became editor-in-chief as part of France 24's participation in the national news channel Franceinfo.
From 2018 to 2021, he led the French, English and Arabic website teams of France24.com.
Since the start of the 2021 school year, he had resumed his activities as editor-in-chief of the "Journal du monde de France 24" on Franceinfo.

Ghassan was a much appreciated, dedicated and warm colleague.
He was benevolent, very human and very attached to France 24. His great culture made him a connoisseur of the Middle East.
All his colleagues and those who worked with him are upset.
Disappearance of Fatima Ouahrani
The France 24 teams also join in the mourning of the family and loved ones of Fatima Ouahrani, who left earlier this week.

Fatima had joined France 24 when the channel was created in September 2006, as an executive assistant in the administrative and financial department.
In 2009, she took over responsibility for the missions department.
Since early 2012, she was the head of the missions department for the entire France Médias Monde group.
