A Vietnamese child was declared dead 4 days after he fell into a 35-meter-deep hole

After a four-day rescue effort, Vietnam announced today, Wednesday, the death of a 10-year-old boy who fell into a 35-meter-deep hole at a bridge construction site in southern Vietnam.

Rescue workers in Dong Thap province in the Mekong River delta separated a reinforced concrete pipe from the hole in an attempt to pull out the trapped child, Tai Li Hau Nam.

The boy was apparently looking for scrap when he fell into a 25-centimetre-wide concrete pipe that forms one of the supports for a new bridge in Dong Thap province.

The deputy head of the People's Committee of Dong Thap Province (south) Duan Tan Po said today that the child died.

He told reporters at the site of the construction site that the boy "was stuck in a very deep and narrow hole, with multiple injuries and not enough oxygen for a long time."

He continued, "We made saving the boy a priority. But the circumstances made it impossible for him to survive."

Relief workers are trying so far to retrieve the body as quickly as possible for burial, but Bo admitted that the task was "very arduous."

Vietnam recruited hundreds of soldiers and engineering experts to participate in the efforts to save the child, and according to local media, the rescue personnel tried to dig and soften the ground in an attempt to pull the pillar up in order to save the child, and they also tried to remove mud and water to reduce the pressure around the concrete pillar, but their efforts that continued Several days have not yet yielded the desired results.
