With January comes the season of wishes, of the galette and of… the evacuation of the Christmas trees!

In Paris, unlike other cities, the town hall does not organize collection in the streets directly but communicates on the 173 collection points open until January 20.

However, even if this operation has been taking place since the 2007-2008 holiday season, Parisians continue to slalom in January between abandoned trees.

What are the risks of placing your Christmas tree at the bottom of your building, at the entrance to a park or even in the middle of the sidewalk?

According to the law, this act is punishable by a fine of 135 euros for “wild dumping”, if one is caught red-handed.

In fact, this kind of verbalization is therefore extremely rare.

An act of incivility increasingly denounced

But the subject is talking: on Twitter, Adrien Larouzée has made a specialty of tracking down abandoned trees and has brought with him a community under the hashtag #ChasseursDeSapins.

For each photo posted, points are awarded to the tweeter.

And by launching the 2023 edition, the head tree hunter reminds us: the later in the year they are found, the more points the abandoned trees are worth.

🎄 Tree Hunters 2023 here we go!

The rules are simple: you must tweet the photo of a cowardly abandoned tree with the hashtag #chasseursdesapins.

the later they are caught, the more points they are worth, and they add up.

I keep the scores.

This competition, even if it is organized in the form of a game, is a way of denouncing this act of incivility, which constitutes a real thorn in the side for the City of Paris.

If they are higher than 2.5 meters, they are collected by the city services, in order to be transformed into shredded material used to protect plantations in green spaces, and if they are smaller, they will be directly incinerated. .

Finally, the City reminds that after January 20 or if users cannot go to a collection point, the deceased Christmas tree can also be placed on the sidewalk at the same time as the “household waste” bin.
