Tesla, an electric vehicle company in the US, was fined 2.8 billion won for inflating the mileage and charging speed.

Depending on the temperature or driving conditions, the mileage varied greatly, but this was not accurately reported to Korean consumers.

<Reporter> This

is an advertisement posted on the homepage of Tesla, an American electric car company.

The Model 3 long-range vehicle was written to be able to drive 'more than' 528 km on a single charge.

The Fair Trade Commission judged it to be a false exaggerated advertisement.

528km is the value measured under the best conditions for cars to run, such as highways at room temperature, and the mileage was reduced to between 273 and 440km at low temperatures.

It is not indicated that there is a difference from actual driving fuel economy depending on the driving method and outside temperature.

The Fair Trade Commission pointed out that the expression 'over' of 528 km is also different from the maximum (up to) distance display advertised in the United States.

Tesla also exaggerated the effect of reducing fuel costs.

When calculating fuel cost savings, the national average charging rate was assumed to be 135.53 won per kilowatt-hour, but the actual charging rate was 41.4% higher based on full speed.

[Nam Dong-il/Director of Consumer Policy, Fair Trade Commission: (Tesla) is highly likely to misunderstand that it can be achieved in real life, such as the driving distance, etc. In addition,

if

the order fee was deducted 100,000 won in advance for each customer who purchased the vehicle, and then the order was canceled, it was not refunded in the name of a penalty. Together, we decided to impose a fine of 2.852 billion won.
