The case has been appealed twice.

The first decision about the name change was already taken on 14 November when Börje Salming was still alive.

That decision was overturned as it was deemed to have been made illegally.

On 5 December, a new decision was made, but it too was appealed – this time without a hearing.

According to P4 Norrbotten, the appeal is rejected on the grounds that it is the municipal board that names streets, roads and squares in Kiruna.

"Feels honored for Börje"

Whether there will be a third turn in the case remains to be seen, the decision can be appealed to the Court of Appeal.

Börje Salming passed away in the suites of ALS on November 24.

He lived to be 71 years old.

In the clip below, you can hear Kiruna residents on Matojärvigatan say what they think about the name change.
