Two people were fatally hit by a TER on Sunday evening in Bernolsheim, in the Bas-Rhin, we learned on Monday from the firefighters.

The tragedy, the cause of which is still unknown, occurred around 8:30 p.m., the fire and rescue service said.

“The two victims were dead when help arrived,” said the firefighters.

It was a man in his forties and a second person whose age and gender could not be determined.

Hypothesis of a suicide

The accident occurred “on the edge of the forest, Jean-Marc Dierse, the mayor of Bernolsheim, told AFP.

It is a place where there is no barrier, but there is no road, you have to really want to go there”.

He also hinted that the hypothesis of a suicide could be considered.

None of the 118 passengers was injured, according to the SNCF, which specifies that they were taken care of in buses.

A police investigation has been opened.
