As of now, there are only 49 survivors registered in the Nanjing Aid Association for the Victims of the Japanese Invasion of China.

Ma Tinglu was born in March 1934, and his ancestral home is Nanjing.

When the Japanese invaded Nanjing in 1937, his family lived in Dahuifu Lane, Qijiawan.

Because the family was poor, the family could not escape to other places.

Ma Tinglu, his grandmother, uncle, parents, uncle Wen Zhixue, and second aunt Yang Shoulin fled to the refugee area of Jinling University.

Ma Tinglu dictated before his death that after the Japanese army entered the city, they searched and arrested young and middle-aged men everywhere.

His father Ma Yuquan, uncle Wen Zhixue, and second uncle Yang Shoulin were tied up with ropes by the Japanese army and taken to a truck.

"A lot of people were arrested together, they were loaded into several trucks and taken away."

"My relatives never came back. I found out later that they were collectively killed by the Japanese with machine guns by the Xiaguan River in Nanjing." Ma Tinglu said before his death that the river was red and the bones piled up into mountains.

Japanese soldiers also poured gasoline on the corpses and burned them to eliminate traces.

On the Ching Ming Festival and the National Memorial Day for the Nanjing Massacre Victims, Ma Tinglu will take his descendants to the memorial hall to pay homage to the deceased family members.

When it comes to the past, he can't help crying.
