Åsa Nilsson, who has had many animals in the past, has always – considering her name – joked that she should get donkeys.

This year, she made a breakthrough.

The fact that they became donkeys of the endangered Baudet du Poitou breed, of which there are only a few hundred individuals in the world, is because Åsa had seen such donkeys in a zoo.

- When I bought them, I thought they would be like long-eared horses.

But that is completely wrong.

They are not nearly as explosive as horses are.

People come here with their grandchildren who stand and hug their legs.

They are fantastic, says Åsa Nilsson.

Protect livestock

In the past, the donkeys were used to breed mules for agriculture, according to Åsa.

But it is also said that the donkeys can protect livestock from wolves.

- The donkeys attack both foxes and dogs and wolves, it is claimed.

I personally don't dare to chance it - I lock them up at night, says Åsa Nilsson who lives in the area in Skåne where a new wolf pack may be in the works, according to the county administrative board.

In the video above, you can see more of Åsa's three donkeys.

- They touch me so deeply in my heart and have done all along, says Åsa Nilsson outside Höör about her donkeys.

Little Amarillo was born last spring.
