Response to the new crown virus

Is there a "special medicine"?

Zhang Boli, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering:

Whether it is Western medicine or traditional Chinese medicine, there is no "special medicine", let alone "miracle medicine".

Generally, patients can use common cold medicines, and there is no need to pursue any particular medicine, including "three medicines and three prescriptions". Commonly used local cold medicines are also completely available.

After being infected with the new coronavirus, strictly speaking, the role of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is only adjuvant treatment to help alleviate some symptoms, control the development of the disease, and reduce the risk of becoming severe.

Even if the "small molecule specific drug", its mechanism is only to inhibit the replication of the virus, but not to eradicate the virus.

Moreover, the treatment window period of this type of drug is relatively narrow, and it is only effective within 5 days after infection, and it should not be used in combination with statins.

After being infected with the new coronavirus, you must be rational, rational, and patient when taking medicines. It takes a certain amount of time for the medicines to work.

Remember that there is no miracle medicine, no special medicine.

It is even more forbidden to take medicines indiscriminately when you are sick, and to use drugs in combination without purpose, which will easily cause drug injury.

The "main force" against the new coronavirus is autoimmunity.

Therefore, hoarding medicine is not as good as hoarding "good health".

Adjusting the physical condition, paying attention to rest, drinking plenty of water, eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, ensuring nutritional intake, maintaining a good mood, and improving the body's immunity are the most important factors for successfully passing the infection process.

When is it necessary to use antiviral drugs

Can you take it yourself?

Wang Guiqiang, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Peking University First Hospital:

At present, most of the new coronavirus infections are mild or asymptomatic, but there are still a small number of infected people, including the elderly, especially those who have not been vaccinated, and those with serious underlying diseases may develop severe symptoms, or induce the aggravation of underlying diseases.

The ninth edition of my country's diagnosis and treatment plan recommends that antiviral treatment be applied to high-risk groups for severe illness to relieve symptoms, shorten the course of disease, and reduce the risk of severe illness and death.

There are currently three antiviral drugs, among which the new crown monoclonal antibody requires intravenous administration and can only be used in hospitals.

The other two small-molecule oral antivirals are the nematevir/ritonavir combination and azvudine.

The Naimatevir/ritonavir combination can effectively reduce the risk of severe disease. The indications are mild and common. When using it, special attention should be paid to the interaction between drugs. For example, the elderly and those with underlying diseases often take multiple drugs orally. Drugs, such as simvastatin, lovastatin, amiodarone, etc., cannot be used with nematevir, and some drugs are relatively contraindicated. Therefore, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of a doctor.

Azvudine is not suitable for use during pregnancy and lactation, and should be used with caution in patients with moderate to severe liver and kidney impairment. Therefore, it also needs to be used under the guidance of a doctor.

antiviral drugs

Can be used for preventive treatment

Wang Guiqiang, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Peking University First Hospital:

The elderly, especially those with underlying diseases and who have not been vaccinated, belong to the high-risk group, and should be detected and intervened early in the face of the epidemic.

Some oral anti-new coronavirus small molecule drugs can be used as soon as possible after the onset or infection is clearly diagnosed, usually within 5 days.

This kind of anti-new coronavirus small molecule drug has the problem of interacting with many other drugs, and also has some side effects, so it must be used under the guidance of a doctor.

In addition, studies have shown that such drugs cannot be used for preventive treatment, and the effect on critically ill patients is not obvious.
