A microlight crashed in a field in Volvic (Puy-de-Dôme), Saturday afternoon.

Two people were on board the aircraft.

One of them, a 64-year-old man, was dead when paramedics arrived.

The other passenger is the brother of the victim, reports

The 58-year-old was piloting the aircraft and suffered serious leg injuries in the crash.

The 50-year-old was airlifted to Clermont-Ferrand hospital (Puy-de-Dôme).

He explained to the gendarmes, Sunday, to have been embarrassed by the important force of the wind encountered at altitude.

The pilot indicated that he had then decided to lower his altitude and orient himself in order to fly into the wind.

A witness has, in fact, recounted having seen the ULM pass very low in Egaules (Puy-de-Dôme).

An investigator representing the Civil Aviation Safety Investigation and Analysis Bureau (BEA) came to inspect the wreckage of the aircraft.

The soldiers of two gendarmerie brigades were also responsible for the investigations.

Deminers had previously intervened to remove the explosive deployment device from the rescue parachute.
