Getting into sport, reading more, having fun... Like every year, we make good resolutions... that we don't always keep.

If 2023 is no exception, this time, due to inflation or sometimes anxiety-provoking news, the French seem to be making new good resolutions, very different from previous years.

The good resolutions taken at the beginning of each new year have the merit of existing without always being respected.

2023 is no exception.

Among those taken by these Parisians at the microphone of Europe 1, some like "stop smoking", "have fun", "spend less", "do more sport", "read more", "go to the cinema more" ...seem to come back most often.

Quite diverse resolutions, even if most concern health.

Meditate, go less to the restaurant...

Getting into sport, losing weight, quitting smoking, drinking less alcohol, these are some of the great classics every year.

But according to a recent survey, we learn that for 2023, and this is a novelty, the French also want to pay close attention to their mental health, for example by starting to meditate or by exposing themselves less to negative information.

It must be said that with the health crisis, the war in Ukraine or even inflation, the morale of the French is not looking good at the moment.

They therefore wish, for the new year, to regain control both physically and mentally.

And with inflation and the problems of purchasing power, the French also want to pay more attention to their budget by going to restaurants less, by limiting unnecessary expenses or by reducing their energy consumption.

According to this same survey, 52% of French people would have resolved to pay more attention to their expenses in 2023.

"We don't keep them, so you might as well stop doing them"

But there are also those who simply do not make resolutions.

Claudine and Angèle, two Parisians whom Europe 1 met, do not see the point.

"It's been years, we've been doing them, but we don't keep them, so you might as well stop doing them," explains the first.

"I know I won't last. If I smoke a little too much, too bad," adds the second.

Quite frequent reactions because we all know it: the most complicated thing with resolutions is to keep them.
