The number of irregular migrants who arrived on the coast of the United Kingdom in 2022 via the English Channel on unsafe boats exceeded 45,000, according to data from the British Ministry of Defense.

This is the largest number recorded in one year, despite the successive plans of conservative British governments to combat this politically sensitive phenomenon.

According to the French Press Agency's calculations based on figures from the British Ministry of Defense, 45,756 migrants made a dangerous crossing of one of the world's busiest sea lanes, compared to only 28,526 similar crossings in 2021, which was then a record number.

Although the bulk of successful crossings takes place in the summer, with a record daily number of migrants recorded on August 22, 1295, it was recorded in December of this year, the arrival of 1745 migrants.

On November 14, a small boat carrying dozens of immigrants from France sank, and 4 of them died. The death toll could have been much higher, but a fishing boat soon rescued 39 others.

On the night of November 23-24, 2021, 27 migrants between the ages of 7 and 46 died when their rubber boat sank.

The file is very sensitive for the Tories who since Brexit have promised to "take back control" of the border, while the number of those trying to cross the Channel has never been so high, leaving the asylum system beyond its capacity.
