On the occasion of the passage in 2023, the government has just banned disposable packaging in French catering establishments.

A decision hailed from an ecological point of view, but which annoys some customers and questions professionals in the sector.

The year 2022 ended this Saturday, now up to 2023. Thousands of people celebrated the new year all over France, and in particular on the Champs-Élysées.

But the transition from one year to another is not only accompanied by good resolutions.

Because January 1 is a special day.

Increase in the price of SNCF tickets, new rules for receiving the ecological bonus, increase in the Smic and pensions... The first day of the year is accompanied by many changes.

"They could do it themselves"

Among these, the disappearance of disposable packaging in restaurants with 20 seats or more.

So, to get there, fast food restaurants will have to use reusable tableware for indoor meals, like the Eat Salad chain, which has been preparing to hit the nails for a year and a half now.

And since this summer, in this chain of salad bars, customers who eat on site clear away like at home, which is not necessarily to the taste of some customers.

"It's a little guilty because we are given a lot of things to do, while the service is not very good, the prices are expensive and the food is of low quality in fast food restaurants", judges a chain customer. 

"It's good to sort it out, but they could do it themselves," he annoys.

But on the other side of the ice, the staff sometimes have to be pedagogical so that bowls, glasses and even stainless steel cutlery do not go in the trash... sometimes without success. 

heavy investments

"Very often, we realize that we have a little less spoons, a little less forks, a little less knives and therefore we are obliged to recommend them regularly, precisely to overcome this problem", explains Miranda, who runs an Eat Salad restaurant in Montmartre in Paris. 

"If it's in the ideas and in the heads, it's not yet very much in the actions. And people are not yet sensitive enough, in my opinion, to all the efforts that a company like ours can do," said channel co-founder Joseph Barat.

In total, the brand will have invested nearly €100,000 in all of its restaurants, to adapt to the regulations.
