China News Service, January 1 (Xinhua) According to Reuters, on the first day of the new year, air raid sirens sounded again across Ukraine, and explosions were heard in the capital Kyiv and surrounding areas.

It was the third air defense siren sounded in Ukraine in as many days.

Russia previously launched two missile attacks on Ukraine on December 29 and December 31, 2022.

The second attack severely damaged a hotel and a residential building in Kyiv, killing at least one person and injuring dozens in Kiev.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Galushenko said on social media Facebook that the attack did not cause serious damage to the national power system.

Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valery Zarouzhny said the air defense system shot down 12 incoming cruise missiles, six of which landed near Kyiv.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least a dozen people were wounded in the attack, with a Japanese journalist taken to hospital.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a New Year's speech to the Ukrainian people on December 31, saying that his only wish is to win.

He reiterated that Ukraine will continue to fight for freedom.

At the same time, he reiterated his call for allies to provide more air and anti-missile systems.

"I want to wish all of us one thing - victory. And this is the main thing, the wish of all Ukrainians... We are ready to fight for it (freedom), that's why each of us is here, ’ said Zelensky.

In his New Year speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on the people to support the Russian troops who are carrying out special military operations in Ukraine.
