The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution requesting the advisory opinion of the Court of Justice on Israel's violation of the Palestinians' right to self-determination, about two weeks after the United Nations Assembly voted by an overwhelming majority on a resolution supporting the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

The decision requests the opinion of the Court of Justice on the Israeli measures aimed at bringing about demographic change in East Jerusalem, as well as its opinion on the impact of Israel's policies and practices on the legal status of the occupation.

The resolution, adopted by the assembly with 87 votes in favor, 26 against and 53 abstentions, also requests the opinion of the Court of Justice on Israel's adoption of discriminatory legislation and measures against the Palestinians.

The United Nations General Assembly voted in New York by an overwhelming majority on December 16 on a resolution supporting the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

And that decision was adopted - during a regular meeting of the Assembly - with a majority of 168 countries voting in favor of it, while 6 countries opposed it, namely: Chad, Israel, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, and the United States of America, and 9 countries abstained from voting.

Earlier in December, the General Assembly also voted by majority, on 5 resolutions in favor of the Palestinian cause, especially the refugee issue.

These decisions are issued annually by the General Assembly, which has 193 members, and is not binding.

It is noteworthy that the United Nations had condemned the spread of settler violence and the use of "excessive force" by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, which made the year 2022 the bloodiest in the occupied Palestinian territories, since the United Nations began documenting the number of victims in 2005.
