In order to ensure the safety of water supply and coordinate the water needs of all parties, the Pearl River Committee organized and implemented two emergency water replenishment dispatches, scientifically dispatched 13 reservoirs in the upper and middle reaches, and replenished 1 billion cubic meters of water downstream, effectively suppressing the salt tide in the Pearl River estuary.

The third line of defense is the 4 backbone reservoirs of Tianshengqiao, Guangzhao, Longtan, and Baise in the upper reaches of the basin, with an effective water storage capacity of 12.8 billion cubic meters, and a total effective water storage rate of 59%, which can meet the later emergency water supply needs.
