The driver of a vehicle died this Saturday after being hit by a train on the Rodalies line R12 between the stations of Mollerussa and Bell-lloc (Lleida).

The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the causes of this accident that has caused the Civil Protection of the Generalitat to activate the railway emergency plan of Catalonia (Ferrocat) in the alert phase.

In this way the circulation of line R12 was cut off.

The train left Lleida at 8.43 and it had to arrive at l'Hospitalet de Llobregat at 12.02.

The 60 passengers on the train are unharmed but the driver of the vehicle was trapped inside and eventually died.

The accident took place at the exit of the Bell-lloc station when the train hit a car that was crossing the level crossing and in which only the driver was traveling.

Six fire crews have helped evacuate the passengers and get the deceased driver out of the car.
