Covid-19: Morocco closes its borders to travelers from China

While several countries have opted for mandatory tests, Morocco has decided to close its borders to all people from China, a country plagued by a wave of Covid-19 contamination since the lifting of health restrictions.

The Moroccan authorities have decided to prohibit access to the territory of the Kingdom of Morocco to all travelers, regardless of their nationality, coming from the People's Republic of
China
,” said a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published on Saturday. January 31.
The ban will come into effect “
from January 3 and until further notice
”.
Its purpose is to “
avoid a new wave of contamination
”
with Covid-19
in the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco explains that the decision was taken in the face of “
the evolution of the health situation in China
”.
Indeed, since
the lifting of the “zero Covid” policy
on December 7, the country has been overwhelmed by cases of Covid-19.
But "
this exceptional measure in no way taints the sincere friendship between the two peoples and the strategic partnership between the two countries and to which the Kingdom remains strongly attached
", specifies the Moroccan ministry.

Morocco is not the only country to have imposed restrictions on travelers from China.
Other countries, such as France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States or even South Korea, decided this week to impose a negative test on travelers coming from China.
