A member of the Federal National Council, Dr. Sheikha Obaid Al-Tunaiji, proposed offering programs to prepare teachers for the primary and secondary levels, by formulating a national policy among all educational institutions under the umbrella of the Ministry of Education, so that programs are offered at the university level to prepare them, and the student graduates with a master’s degree in the fifth year, In addition to providing scholarships for outstanding students to study in colleges of education.

She added that the proposed policy includes setting acceptance criteria for selecting the best applicants from general education students, according to academic degrees, extra-curricular activities, and personal interviews that search for the psychological and intellectual readiness of the applicant to the teaching profession.

She stressed the importance of cooperation and coordination with the Higher Colleges of Technology due to its multiplicity of centers, and its coverage of the largest geographical area, by exploiting its capabilities, and cooperation with the United Arab Emirates University, especially the College of Education, to offer teacher programs for the primary and secondary levels.

It also suggested providing counseling programs for students and parents in private and public schools on the educational specializations required from the beginning of the third cycle, whether in schools or through the media, and the advantages that a future teacher can obtain.

Al-Tunaiji told "Emirates Today" that "the most prominent challenges that drive national cadres to refrain from the teaching profession are the low salaries, compared to the salaries of other jobs," stressing that "the citizen graduate will accept the teaching profession if he has a suitable salary and suitable working conditions, so that his tasks are Inside the classroom, not burdened with teaching and administrative tasks at the same time.

The Ministry called for the provision of rehabilitation centers in education programs at the state level, in order to facilitate the national students wishing to study this program, and not to limit it to specific places that are far away from them.

She referred to two ways to prepare the teacher, either through an integrated program that integrates scientific or social subjects and educational subjects.

The second way is a sequential program, in which the student completes the bachelor's degree in a scientific or literary college, then enrolls in an educational rehabilitation program in the College of Education, or completes postgraduate programs.

She said that the Ministry of Education is the federal entity entrusted with supervising educational institutions, and the Ministry undertakes specializations, including setting and developing the general plan for higher education in the country, and achieving coordination and integration between public and higher education institutions, government and private, regarding fields of specialization and academic degrees awarded in each of them. , policies for accepting students, and criteria for their distribution in these fields, in a manner commensurate with the needs of society and the labor market, and planning and implementing control operations over early childhood institutions, public and higher education, both public and private, in the country, to ensure the quality of education outcomes, in coordination with the concerned authorities.

The Ministry supervises higher education programs through the Academic Accreditation Commission for Higher Education, the Academic Planning Department, the Supervision Department of Higher Education Institutions, and the Evaluation and Quality Department of Higher Education Institutions.

Stressing that the Minister expressed his readiness to study the programs offered in various universities, and to coordinate with them to carry out what is required by the plan to provide national teaching cadres.
