According to Scholz, the people of Ukraine are defending the country, including thanks to Western assistance.

Scholz also acknowledged that Germans are feeling the effects of the Ukrainian crisis.
Earlier, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in a Christmas address to the Germans, said that 2022 was not an easy year and the people of the country experienced the serious consequences of the situation in Ukraine.
