Earlier, Hollande said that the Minsk agreements allowed the Ukrainian army to become stronger and “stopped the Russian offensive for a while.”

“Thousands of statements that Russia is disrupting the peace process and does not want a peaceful settlement were pure lies at the highest level of state leaders,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Miroshnik stressed that neither Merkel nor Hollande, when signing the Minsk agreements, planned to resolve the conflict, but only wanted to give Ukraine a breather to prepare for hostilities.

On December 7, former German chancellor Angela Merkel called the Minsk agreements an attempt to give Ukraine time to “become stronger.”

She noted that today's Ukraine militarily is "not what it was in 2014-2015."

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was disappointed with such a statement by the ex-Chancellor of Germany.

He stressed that Russia did the right thing by launching a special operation, because no one was going to fulfill the Minsk agreements.
