• Obituary The former national policeman 'Billy el Niño', accused of torture during the Franco regime, dies of Covid-19

The Ministry of the Interior has ordered the review and withdrawal of police decorations received in the past by agents who had been part of the repression apparatus of the Franco dictatorship, such as the one who was a member of the Social Political Brigade of the Francoist Police Antonio González Pacheco, Billy the Child, deceased in 2020.

As reported by the Ministry of the Interior, the decision of minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska is a consequence of the application of the Democratic Memory Law, in force since October, which contemplates the annulment of police rewards when it is proven that their beneficiary, before or after the concession, has incurred in acts incompatible with the orders of merit of the National Police or Civil Guard.

Among those affected by the Interior order is the former inspector of the Francoist Social Political Brigade Juan Antonio González Pacheco, known as Billy el Niño, who had four decorations and who died of coronavirus in May 2020 without having been removed the medals or the additional 50% pension that they provided.

Police sources have specified to Efe that at least seven files have been identified, four relating to civil guards and three national police officers.
