It is currently not possible to estimate what consequences the growing corona wave in China will have for the rest of the world and which protective measures will prove to be useful.

What is certain, however, is that a well-considered, calm, analytical approach by the responsible politicians is appropriate and reasonable in any case.

And no scaremongering.

For too long this was the method of election of the German Minister of Health.

In April, Karl Lauterbach warned of a killer variant of the corona virus.

Even then, the citizens could have the clear feeling that the scientist Lauterbach was not speaking, as he likes to present himself as, but the attention-seeking minister.

European agreement is important

Now the Social Democrat seems to have finally understood that Corona has to be dealt with differently than at the beginning of the pandemic.

Which doesn't mean that the virus has completely lost its danger.

A few protective measures are still in force in Germany, for which there are understandable reasons.

It is also understandable that these rules will probably expire in 2023.

Lauterbach now wants to prepare “variant monitoring” at airports in consultation with other European countries in order to identify new mutations at an early stage.

That makes sense.

Above all, that this should happen together with the neighbors and not – as in the past – be taken by surprise.
