According to Livsmedelshandlarna, meat theft has been a problem for many years - and throughout the country.

But during the autumn the problem has worsened, according to Pär Bygdesson.

It is partly due to the tough economic situation, which has led to smaller shops and restaurants becoming more inclined to buy in black meat, says Pär Bygdesson, who points out that organized crime is behind it.

- When you steal ten kilos of meat, you don't do it to eat it yourself, but to sell it on, he says.

The stores do not report

According to Pär Bygdesson, there are no statistics for how much meat is lost because the reports that are made are given lower priority by the police.

- The police, especially in the Stockholm region, routinely file reports with a theft value of SEK 1,200, which means that the shops give up reporting, so the statistics are completely gone in this area.

Three billion disappear

In total, member stores ICA, Hemköp, Tempo, Handlar'n, Nära Dej and Matöppet take in approximately 220 billion on food every year.

But it could have been even more.

- Three billion in food alone disappears, which the other customers have to pay for.
