The purpose of the law is to facilitate reunions between stray cats and their owners.

The county administrative boards will ensure that the law is followed.

- In connection with animal welfare matters, we can check this and order owners to register their cats, we can also decide on fines, explains Vanja Kinch, county veterinarian at the County Administrative Board in Halland.

When the same law was introduced for dogs about 20 years ago, the percentage of registered dogs went up from 50 to 90 percent.

Something that the county administrative board hopes will be an indication of what it will mean for the cats.
