Moscow falls march 500 kilometers from the Ukrainian border

Russian air defenses shot down a drone Thursday near the main military base of Engels, located 500 km from the Ukrainian border, which was targeted by a drone attack that claimed the lives of three people and was attributed to Ukraine.

"An anti-aircraft defense system has been activated on the territory of Engels County. An unknown object has been destroyed and there is no threat to the safety of the population," Roman Busargin, the district governor, wrote on Telegram.

He later explained that this unidentified object was a drone, and its fragments caused damage to a fence, a house, and a car, without causing any casualties.

On Monday, the Engels Air Force Base, located in this region, was targeted by a drone attack that claimed the lives of three military personnel, according to Moscow.

They were killed by shrapnel from a Ukrainian drone that was shot down by the air defenses.

On December 5, Moscow accused Ukraine of launching drone attacks on the Engels base and another base in the Ryazan region, in the southeast of the Russian capital.

This is, then, the third incident within a month targeting the vicinity of this Russian air base, which is known to include strategic bombers and devices designed to strike high-importance targets.

This new incident comes at a time when Ukraine revealed that Moscow had bombed its energy facilities with "intensive" missile strikes on Thursday.
