“Russian diplomacy is not prone to defeatism,” Lavrov replied to the question of whether the “point of no return” in this discussion has been passed.
He noted that the West is trying to make the world "fear the Iranian threat", but at the same time does not like to remember that the JCPOA worked until Washington decided overnight to break the "nuclear deal", violating its own obligations of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
Lavrov added that negotiations to "restart" these historic agreements had reached the stage where it was time to "make responsible decisions" and Russia was ready for that.
On December 21, Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, called Washington's decision to freeze negotiations on the restoration of the JCPOA irresponsible.
According to US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the possible failure of the deal to restore the JCPOA is part of the equation being considered by the US.
