Five people have been killed and 37 injured in a fire on a highway near the South Korean capital Seoul.

South Korean media reports that the collision between a bus and a truck caused a fire to spread to the soundproof roof that covers the highway and spread the damage.

According to the local fire department, a fire broke out from a truck running on the 2nd Gyeongin Expressway in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do near Seoul at 2:00 pm on the 29th.



From the footage of the scene reported by public broadcaster KBS, you can see that the roof covering the highway is burning violently over a wide area and black smoke is rising.



The fire was extinguished in just over two hours, but according to the fire department, five people have died, three others have been seriously injured, and 34 people have been treated at a hospital for smoke inhalation. It means that there is

Korean media initially reported that 6 people had died, but according to the fire department, the number of deaths was 5 as a result of recounting.



Regarding the cause of the fire, Korean media reported that after the rear-end collision between the bus and the truck, the truck caught fire and spread to the soundproof roof of the highway, causing more damage.
