The deputies of the majority in power affirm that this bill contains only provisions relating to the organization of referendums.

This bill is not another law, but it is a recommendation of the Constitution,

explains

Brice Kapkayen, chairman of the law commission and deputy of the majority.

Articles 90 and 41 of the Constitution refer to the adoption of an additional text which comes to organize, all that is referendum in the Central African Republic.

We are not talking about a constitutional referendum here, but about a law which comes to frame if there is a referendum

,” he declared.

But on the opposition side, Joseph Bendounga deputy for Bimbo 3 thinks that this project defines the will of the executive to cling to power: "

It is a bill that [Faustin-Archange] Touadéra wants to use to to be able to prevail.

I asked the National Assembly to reject this bill and to reformulate it in order to bring it into conformity with the Constitution of the CAR.

Now that this law is voted in this state, I will seize the Constitutional Court

”.

This bill is adopted in a context where the arm wrestling continues between the power and the opposition on the organization of a constitutional referendum in the Central African Republic.
