Consumers in Sweden spend approximately 160 million in total each year on fireworks, according to data from the Swedish Pyrotechnics Industry Association.

They saw an increase in sales already last year when more and more people stayed at home over the New Year.

Now it seems that the trend is continuing.

- I have seen an increase of 40-50 percent.

It's obviously great fun, says Peter Nordin, shop owner in Uppsala.

If it will be a record year, according to Peter Nordin, it is too early to say because half of the sales are made in the last two days.

Linnea Sjökvist was on site at the store in Sunnersta, she bought her own fireworks for the first time.

- We will celebrate New Year's in the countryside where there won't be so many fireworks and that's why we wanted to buy our own, she says.
