New conditions for marriage

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi had called a few days ago for setting a condition for the completion of the marriage, which is that the person wishing to marry pays a sum of money in a fund bearing the name “Support for the Egyptian Family”, in addition to the young man and the girl conducting medical analyzes, and granting a committee headed by a judge the right to approve the completion of the marriage. or not.

Al-Sisi said in statements a few days ago - on the sidelines of the opening of factories in Giza Governorate - that the state has put forward a fund to support the family in its critical times, especially when disputes arise, and that the fund will receive support from the government and married couples, as the government contributes to supporting the fund to the same extent that Those who are about to get married will contribute to it.

He added that the aforementioned fund comes within the framework of the state's endeavor to protect families in times of disputes, saying, "During marital disputes, who will take care of the children? Children are lost in the midst of conflicts."

Many see the establishment of this new fund as a new burden on young people about to get married, while others consider it a way to reduce the divorce rate, which has risen in Egypt in recent times.

According to a report issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in Egypt last August, the divorce rate in Egypt increased in 2021 by 14.7% compared to 2020.

According to the report, the number of divorce cases reached about 255,000 in 2021, compared to about 222,000 in 2020.
