- Whether they sit in Gothenburg or Athens makes no difference.

The most important thing is that you feel safe in the room, that the technology works and that you have someone to turn to, says Pernilla Nordkvist, acting division head of psychiatry at Region Norrbotten.

A total of 35 senior doctors work at psychiatry in Norrbotten, and several of these work remotely.

- We have the majority of doctors on site and we need to have that as well.

We see this with remote doctors as an opportunity, says Pernilla Nordkvist.

Varying response

Since the working method was introduced in 2016, the response from care recipients in psychiatry has looked different.

- You need to have communication with the patient and at first I think many people feel that "I don't want it that way" but then it can turn out that it works perfectly.

There are certain groups that think this works much better than sitting in a room with their doctor, says Pernilla Nordkvist.
