The incident occurred at the beginning of November when the couple in Karlskrona were to be seen over a dinner.
But the intended romantic evening ended in a fight and serious assault.
At the time, the woman brought her dog home to the 40-year-old man.
The man's cat was also in the apartment.
During an unattended moment when the woman was cooking, the dog ate the cat's food - this led to the man's anger.
Denies crime
The evening degenerated and the man then abused the girlfriend by grabbing her head, hair and ears and pushing her against the wall several times.
He also cut her arm with a knife and scalped her.
Furthermore, the man held a knife to the woman's eye and threatened to cut it out.
The 40-year-old has denied the acts himself, but is now being sentenced in Blekinge district court for both serious assault and illegal threats.
The penalty is imprisonment for one year and ten months.
The man is also convicted of drug offences.
In addition to the prison sentence, he must also pay damages to the girlfriend of just over SEK 54,000.
