The story of a couple who fell into a canyon 100m below while driving was saved and rescued thanks to Hyundai Elantra and iPhone 14, becoming a hot topic.

According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 27th (local time), the couple Chloe Fields and Christian Gelada got into an accident while traveling in Los Angeles, California (LA) in Hyundai's mid-size car Elantra N in the middle of this month.

On the afternoon of the accident, while driving through Angeles National Forest in Los Angeles County, the Elantra N skidded on gravel and tumbled 300 feet (91 m) down a ravine.

Elantra N was smashed beyond recognition.

Fortunately, the couple were not seriously injured.

Those who got out of the car took out their cell phones to call for help.

However, the place where the accident occurred was in an area without cell phone service.

The couple was nervous and anxious at the moment, but soon had hope.

Fields' recently bought iPhone 14 was sending urgent messages to rescue authorities.

Subsequently, a text message was received from a nearby search and rescue team, and they were able to send specific information such as the location of the accident while exchanging text messages with the rescue team.

Rescuers immediately dispatched a helicopter, and they were rescued.

Rescuers said they received a call from Apple's emergency satellite service.

The 'Collision Detection and Emergency Rescue Request Service' installed in the iPhone 14 is a function that automatically reports to the rescue team via satellite even in areas where there is no mobile phone service when the device determines the user's danger on its own and detects that a strong collision has occurred. .

The service, which uses 24 low-orbit satellites launched by Louisiana-based Globalstar, began service in North America in the middle of last month.

The service schedule for other regions such as Korea is not yet known.

"Thank you for still being here," Fields tweeted. "Thank God for my cell phone obsession."

"The Hyundai Elantra N is really great," he said. "I survived a fall of 300 feet."
