Reuters reported that the US House of Representatives decided - today, Tuesday - to ban the "TikTok" application for short videos from all devices used by its members and employees, in the latest step to restrict the application, which is owned by a Chinese company.

Reuters quoted a senior administration official in the US House of Representatives as saying, "The TikTok application is very dangerous due to a number of security issues."

About a week ago, the states of “Louisiana” and “West Virginia” joined other states in banning the use of the “Tik Tok” application on devices belonging to their governments, due to fears that China could use it to track Americans and monitor content.

And 19 US states at least partially prevent devices used by those state governments from accessing the TikTok platform, which is owned by the Beijing-based Chinese company Bytedance Limited.

And earlier this month, some members of Congress proposed a nationwide ban on TikTok, which would make the United States follow countries - such as India - that have already banned its use.

After this move in Congress, the Chinese company operating the application confirmed in a statement that it was "disturbed that many states are quick to join in political propaganda to activate policies based on baseless allegations about TikTok, and will not benefit the national security of the United States."

President Joe Biden last year overturned an executive order issued by his predecessor Donald Trump banning TikTok in the United States, but negotiations continued between his administration and the social media company over a potential deal that would address security concerns.
