Ukrainian researcher and political analyst Maria Zolkina confirmed - in a statement to the "Beyond the News" program - that the proposal put forward by Kyiv regarding holding a peace summit is not related to holding peace talks with Russia, but rather to exposing it, and holding the international community to account for what it described as the crimes it committed in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian proposal came from the words of Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who said that his country's government seeks to hold a peace summit by the end of next February, and it could be in the United Nations and mediated by its Secretary-General.

But Kuleba stressed that Russia should face a war crimes court before any direct talks with Ukraine, a call to which the Kremlin responded by saying that Russia never follows the conditions of others in negotiating.

Zolkina believes that there is a misunderstanding of the proposal that the Ukrainian minister spoke about, because true peace can only be when Russia stops its hostilities and withdraws from the Ukrainian lands it controlled, and there will be no dialogue with the Russians except after they surrender militarily, stressing that the Ukrainian conditions are specific and supported by society. international.

The researcher and political analyst stressed that her country will continue to defend its lands, because Russian President Vladimir Putin denies the existence of Ukraine.

Andrei Yermak, advisor to the Ukrainian president, said that important events await his country next year, and that Kyiv's goal is to restore all its internationally recognized lands, especially Crimea.

American and Western pressure

For its part, the Kremlin expressed its rejection of the possibility of negotiations at the United Nations on Ukraine's terms, and Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that his country never follows the conditions of others in negotiating.

Peskov stressed that Russia's reference is its own goals and common sense, as he put it.

According to the researcher in international relations, Stanislav Mitrakhovich, Ukraine's call for peace negotiations next February under the auspices of the United Nations came under American and Western pressure, because there is a heavy price for the ongoing war in Ukraine, indicating that Washington and its allies can only support Kyiv for some time.

While he preferred Moscow's acceptance of Kyiv's initiative in the end, Mitrakhovich ruled out the possibility of Ukraine regaining Crimea, describing this matter as extremely difficult, and said that this island will remain with Russia and perhaps parts of the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.

The researcher in international relations also ruled out the intervention of the United Nations to mediate in the Ukraine war in the near future, saying that some countries such as China and India deal with Russia and do not care about Ukraine or the Western view of the war.

It is noteworthy that the spokeswoman for the United Nations said that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres can only mediate on Ukraine if all parties agree to that.
