A 69-year-old woman who was traveling on foot lost her life after being hit by a train in Vinay (Isère), early Monday afternoon.

The fatal collision occurred at the level of the level crossing on the railway linking Grenoble (Isère) to Valence (Drôme), specifies Actu Grenoble.

The TER which mowed down the pedestrian had left Grenoble station a few moments earlier.

Nine firefighters were sent to the scene but they were unable to do anything for the victim.

They told the soldiers that they had seen the 60-year-old walk to the middle of the rails and stop voluntarily.

The trail of suicide is seriously considered.

The movement of trains was interrupted to let rescuers and investigators intervene.

The 68 TER passengers were offered to complete the journey by coach.

None of them were injured.
