Ahead of the plenary session to be held the day after tomorrow (28th), the ruling and opposition parties are discussing the extension of the sunset bills that will soon expire.

The bills at issue include a safe freight rate system for trucks and an 8-hour overtime work system.

Joo Ho-young, the People's Power floor leader, and Park Hong-geun, the Democratic Party's floor leader, agreed to process the budget bill on the 22nd, and then held a plenary session again the day after tomorrow to pass the sunset bill.

The sunset bills that will be at issue this time include an amendment to the Trucking Transport Business Act, which focuses on the safe freight rate system for trucks, an amendment to the Labor Standards Act, which includes an '8-hour additional overtime work system', and the National Health Insurance Act for financial support for health insurance from the national treasury.

The Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly held an Employment and Labor Legislation Review Subcommittee today to review an amendment to the Labor Standards Act related to the extension of the sunset deadline for the '8-hour additional overtime' for workplaces with less than 30 employees.

While the government sequentially introduced the 52-hour week system by business size from July 2018, exceptions were temporarily granted until the end of this year for businesses with fewer than 30 employees.

The government and the ruling party are demanding an extension of the sunset, but the labor world is opposed.

The subcommittee of the Labor Relations Commission also examines the so-called Yellow Envelope Act, an amendment to the Labor Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act, which aims to limit companies' claims for damages against strikers.

The Health and Welfare Committee will also hold a subcommittee this week to discuss an amendment to the National Health Insurance Act related to the retirement of health insurance financial support from the state treasury.

Recently, the safe freight system, which the cargo union requested to expand the items, was independently resolved by the Democratic Party members of the National Territory Committee, and the ball has been passed to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee.

As the government and the ruling party are in the position that the safe fare system itself should be re-discussed from the beginning, it is unlikely that it will be easy to cross the threshold of the Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by the ruling party.
