The macabre count froze at 33, after two new deaths by bullets in the last 48 hours.

Adel Santana Mendy, a footballer from Aubagne shot dead Friday evening in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille. 

And, on the night of Saturday 24 to Sunday 25, a young man died after being shot in the head near the city of La Marine Bleue.

The Bouches-du-Rhône police headquarters counted 60 homicides or attempts linked to drug trafficking in 2022, as explained by France 3 Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur.

Among these 60 facts, 33 died.

2022, worst record of the past decade

Since 2016 and its 29 deadly settling of accounts, Marseille and its region had not experienced such a high number of gun deaths.

Worse, of all the years 2010, 2022 is the worst "vintage", ahead of 2016, therefore, and 2018 and 2012 (23 deaths).

“There are more and more collateral victims, who are not necessarily involved in drug trafficking, who are just there because they live in these neighborhoods”, indicates to France 3 Karima Meziene, a Marseille lawyer who represents a group of families of victims.
