A tragic accident.

A 67-year-old hiker died on Monday by falling into a ravine while walking near the cliff of Pène Haute, near the town of Hèches (Hautes-Pyrénées), we learned from the rescue.

The walker left the hiking trail and ventured onto steep rocky terrain, a rescuer from the Pierrefitte-Nestalas high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) told AFP.

He then slipped and fell into a ravine, "falling about 20 meters".

The emergency services, dispatched by helicopter, could only note the death of the hiker on their arrival, specifies the PGHM of Pierrefitte-Nestalas.

The man was walking in the company of a woman who was psychologically taken care of by the rescuers.
