2022, the first end-of-year celebrations in Ukraine since the Russian invasion.

For the occasion, the Ukrainian president wished to send his wishes to his citizens on Saturday evening with a message of hope.

On the video, Volodymyr Zelensky is standing outside, his arms along his body, his gaze serious and, in the background, an illuminated fir tree.

An eight-minute message in which he recognizes that this year, this December 24 cannot be like the others.

A Christmas with a bitter aftertaste.

A message of hope

"Dinner at the family table cannot be tasty and warm. There may be empty chairs, and our houses and streets cannot be so bright. The Christmas bells are heard through the sound of sirens, air raids, gunshots and explosions," he said.

Throughout his speech, he evokes the war, the bombs.

This war that never ceases during the holidays.

Again on Saturday, a Russian strike on the Kherson market left at least ten dead and 55 injured, according to the governor of the region.

So the Ukrainian president also wanted to send a message of hope.

“We will sing Christmas carols happier than ever, louder than the sound of a generator. We will hear the voices and wishes of loved ones in our hearts. Even if communications services and the Internet are down,” emphasizes the Ukrainian head of state.

Volodymyr Zelensky called on Ukrainians not to let their guard down, to fight against Moscow during the winter, just before wishing them a Merry Christmas.
