The authorities of the Xinjiang Province in eastern China announced today, Sunday, that they are currently facing about one million new cases of Covid-19 per day, and expected the number to double in the coming days, at a time when the National Health Commission in China stopped publishing data related to the Corona virus.
Xinjiang is one of the few regions with an estimated recent rise in infections, including asymptomatic cases.
And the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that "no deaths from the Corona virus were recorded in the past five days," despite the record high in recorded infections.
On the other hand, the numbers recorded across China became incomplete after the National Health Commission stopped recording asymptomatic infections, making it difficult to track infections.
On Sunday, the committee also stopped publishing daily infections, which the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention then began publishing.
And the National Health Commission said that "from today we will not publish daily information about the epidemic."
She added, "The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention will publish information related to the epidemic for reference and research purposes."
China limits its classification of Corona deaths to those who died from pneumonia or pulmonary failure due to infection with the virus, which amazed health experts around the world.
The World Health Organization has not received any data from China on new hospitalizations with the coronavirus since Beijing eased its restrictions.
The organization says that the gap in the data may be caused by the difficulty that the authorities face in counting cases in the world's most populous country.
It is noteworthy that with the growing dissatisfaction of the population, in early December, China abandoned the basic pillars of the "zero Covid-19" policy in order to contain the epidemic, and also canceled the procedures for closures, examinations, quarantine and travel restrictions.
