An avalanche leads to the burial of 10 people in Austria

Austrian police announced that about ten winter sports practitioners were buried today, Sunday, in an avalanche that occurred in the Vorarlberg region in western Austria.

"One person has been rescued and the operation is continuing to find the others," a police spokesman told AFP. Helicopters and teams with sniffer dogs are involved in the search.

The avalanche occurred in the afternoon at an altitude of about 2,700 meters above sea level, in the Lech Zurz ski area.

Rescue workers warned this weekend of the danger of an avalanche in this region as well as in neighboring Tyrol, noting the fragility of the snow mass in light of the fair weather.
