As Kirillov noted, from November 28 to December 16, the Ninth Review Conference of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons (BTWC) was held in Geneva.
“The event was held against the backdrop of a scandal with US military biological activities in Ukraine, a surge in the incidence of H1N1 swine flu and the spread of African swine fever,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
He stressed that the Russian side proposed a number of initiatives to strengthen the biological weapons non-proliferation regime and improve confidence-building measures within the BTWC.

As Kirillov stressed, the American side directly pointed out the inadmissibility of wording about the importance of a legally binding protocol and verification procedures in the final document.
At the same time, more than 120 countries came forward for the corresponding initiative.
Earlier, Kirillov said that the new documents provide evidence that the US was trying to establish control over pathogens in laboratories located in Ukraine.
