Yesterday, Friday, the Italian embassy in Baghdad denied raising a flag that did not represent its country during the meeting of its Prime Minister, Georgia Meloni, with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani.

The embassy said - in an explanatory statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - that it officially denies the news of "the alleged error related to not raising the country's flag during today's meeting of the Italian Prime Minister and the Iraqi Prime Minister."

She added, "The flags used were all of the Italian Republic, and what appeared as a result of visual effects in the filming process."

And the media had circulated pictures showing what appeared to be the flag of the Republic of Ireland instead of Italy, during the Sudanese reception ceremony for his counterpart, Meloni, today, Friday, December 23, 2022.

The error was that the Italian flag appeared behind the Prime Minister in green, white and orange colors, which are the colors of the Irish flag, while the colors of the Italian flag are green, white and red, before the embassy confirmed later yesterday that what happened was the result of “visual effects in the imaging process.” It is not a protocol error, as social media reported.
