The fact of the day

The Russian army is putting the package on the Donetsk region, annexed in 2014. “The situation on the front line has stabilized, the main efforts of our troops are focused on completing the liberation of the territory of the Republic People's Republic of Donetsk" self-proclaimed by the pro-Russian separatists, said Valery Guerassimov, the chief of staff of the Russian armed forces.

In the Donetsk region, the former boss of the space agency was injured by a Ukrainian strike, which killed several people on Wednesday evening according to the Russian Investigative Committee, in charge of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assured reporters that “it is completely normal for officials to visit Russian regions.

sentence of the day

We will do our best to bring this (the conflict) to an end.

And the sooner the better, of course.”

The sentence is signed Vladimir Putin.

After ten months of conflict, the Russian head of state assured this Thursday that he wanted to put an end to the fighting in Ukraine as soon as possible.

The statement by the Russian president was quickly challenged by the United States.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken considered that Russia had shown no "significant" will to end the conflict.

A pass of arms which comes a few hours after the end of the visit of Volodymyr Zelensky in the United States.

Received at the White House and in Congress, the Ukrainian president left with the assurance of receiving additional military aid from the Americans.

With, in particular, the delivery of Patriot missiles, a powerful anti-aircraft defense weapon.

Earlier today, Vladimir Putin assured that Russia will find an "antidote" to these missiles provided by Washington.

The number of the day

6.

Like the number of maneuver days planned in the East China Sea between Russia and Beijing.

These naval military exercises, which will be held from December 21 to 27, are a "reaction" to the "aggressive" position of the United States in Asia, Russian Chief of Staff Valery Guerassimov said on Thursday.

“The goal” of these joint exercises is “to increase (…) the capacity (of the two armies) to resist new challenges and new threats”, added the leader.

This is not the first time that the two armies have exercised together this year.

Last May, the two navies and air forces launched joint maneuvers off Japan and South Korea.

The trend

The Russian reaction to Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the United States was immediate.

The Ukrainian head of state, who returned to Ukraine on Thursday after being received at the White House and in Congress, did not make "real calls for peace" according to Dimitri Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin.

The Kremlin said Thursday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the United States showed no "willingness to listen to Russia" and that Washington was waging a "de facto indirect war" against Moscow in Ukraine.

The Russian authorities also regretted the absence of American "warnings" to Volodymyr Zelensky against "the continued bombardment of residential buildings in the populated areas of Donbass", a region in eastern Ukraine partly controlled by pro-Russian separatists and regularly targeted by Ukrainian forces.
